MORNING MOMENTS

For perfumer Roxanne Kirkpatrick, mornings are sacred – a quiet time to set the tone for her day ahead.

In this precious time that she carves out for herself, things are taken slow but are full of purpose, and always kick-started with coffee. Her morning ritual has elements we can all be inspired by, whether that's making time for intention or a mood-boosting slick of red lipstick.

"I love mornings. They’re when I feel my most creative and energised. I try to wake up early, before my family, so I can enjoy my valuable quiet time."

"Hard as I try not to, the first thing I reach for in the morning is usually my phone. I have family overseas, so there might be a message to catch up on, or I'll check in on emails for a big project. After that, it’s always coffee, which I bring back to bed with me to listen to a podcast or write my morning pages. Journaling, positive affirmations and mantras are a really important part of my morning. They help me decide what to focus on and set the tone for the day ahead. Then it's time to get my children up and ready for school. Once they’ve been dropped off I go for a run. I'm a big believer in exercise, so I run every day. I find it very meditative, and it's another chance to think about what's coming up."

My beloved morning shower is where my body skincare routine begins, with the Soothing Bath & Shower Oil as the first step. The texture feels like silk and velvet all at once, and it really encapsulates the feeling of La Perla lingerie.

"Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. I usually have coffee and oatmeal, but living in Paris you have to take advantage of the croissants from time to time! We do brunch on the weekends and that’s my dream breakfast. Big, luxurious and slightly ridiculous."

"My beloved morning shower is where my body skincare routine begins, with the Soothing Bath & Shower Oil as the first step. The texture feels like silk and velvet all at once, and it really encapsulates the feeling of La Perla lingerie. After my shower, I use the Nourishing Body Balm. The scent is very subtle but so luxurious, and it has a wonderful texture. Both products have beautiful, detailed packaging and the fact that they are refillable and sustainable makes me feel good. Afterwards, I get dressed and do my make-up."

Since moving to Paris, I’ve really embraced bold lipstick.

"Since moving to Paris, I’ve really embraced bold lipstick, so I’ll often choose a colourful shade. As a perfumer, fragrance is a huge part of my life, but I don't wear it during the week because it can interfere with the scents we're working on. At the weekends it really gives me confidence. It carries me through the day, lifts my spirits and provides another filter to see life through. It comes back to setting up my day – once I know what zone I’m in I can choose a fragrance to reflect that."

"What would my perfect morning look like? Honestly, I love my mornings as they are, but waking up on the beach with the sound of the waves crashing and some tropical fruit waiting for me... that would be perfect."
